It looks like Facebook, one of the hottest online social networking sites on the Web was hacked recently. The source code for the main page of the site was posted on the Internet, giving developers and hackers a front-row view into how the site ticks, its structure, vulnerabilities, etc.
A lot of Blogs like Techcrunch are making a big deal out of it but I think most consumers will take it with a yawn. Most of the site's users don't go onto Facebook to do their banking, but rather to connect with friends. This is akin to a stranger barging into a bar that you have gathered in with your friend. Perhaps you have a nametag on and he sees your name. Big whoop! I have a Facebook account and I'm not concerned at all.
For Facebook the implications may be more severe. Now maybe they'll realize that they should stick to what they do best - creating a place for people to catch up with friends and leave the aspirations to be a social media platform behind.
My best is that the story won't make it into the mainstream media.
